This post discusses 3 brands at Sephora that are some of the most overlooked yet value-priced in the store. Especially for the over 50 woman.
Sephora Best Buys
For the past 6 months or so I have spent part of my time working at a local Sephora store as a Beauty Advisor. Beauty Advisor, in layman’s terms, is a salesperson. For me, the job fits like a well-worn pair of jeans. Not only have I received some amazing insights and fodder for the blog in real time, the customer also benefits. Particularly the over 50 customer.
Friends and strangers alike inevitably are curious to know “what are your favorite products” and “what should I buy?”.
The quick and dirty answer is “it all depends”. There are many beauty products worthy of consideration (more than one would think).
To that end, I have compiled a non-exhaustive list comprised of only 3 of my best Sephora value buys for the over 50 woman. To narrow down the selection, I chose 3 brands and corresponding products that:
- Are at a lower price point/higher level of affordability relative to the average Sephora product
- Exhibit great perhaps even head-turning quality
- Meet the unique needs of the over 50 woman with special attention and benefit given to textured and dry skin
In compiling this list, I realized that many of these value brands and products “hide in plain sight”. Some are branded for a much younger audience than 50+, and others simply have less credibility due to less advertising and social media exposure.
At the end of the day, I hope that at least some of these choices will be new news to you and that you may find a few affordable favorites of your own.

Sephora Brand Best Buys
The Sephora brand of products is also known as the “Sephora Collection” and is displayed typically in multiple areas of their stores. At least one area will be very high traffic. With that said, like me, you may have overlooked these products and/or assumed their value to be less than their name-brand counterparts.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
Of course, like any brand’s product line, not all of Sephora’s products are “all that”. However, many are made in either France or Italy (products manufactured in these locations undergo a superior manufacturing process than here in the US or China) and perform very well. They also go on sale repeatedly throughout the year.
My personal notables are below.
Sephora Collection Best Products
Sephora Triple Action Micellar Water-For those of you who don’t know, Micellar Water is a type of makeup remover that contains “micelles” or oil molecules. These micelles attract dirt, makeup, etc making makeup easy to remove from the skin.
Truth be told, I’ve never been a big fan of Micellar water, however, the Sephora brand has converted me. It is a very effective makeup remover. Additional zinc and aloe vera in the formula result in increased skin hydration. Great product and a great price.
Sephora Collection Eyeliners-Sephora has multiple liners for eyes and multiple liners for lips. They are creamy and longlasting. Some even contain a hidden sharpener on one end of the liner. For those of you who remember Marc Jacobs’ liners, these compete at a fraction of the price.
Clean Solid Deodorant-For those of you who don’t want aluminum or a lot of fragrance in your deodorant, this is a great option. These are mildly scented with an $8.00 price tag that is often reduced a few dollars lower. By the way, they are made in Italy.
Sephora Collection Beauty Tools and Accessories–
Sponges, brushes, and brush cleansers-I consider their brush cleansers to be some of the best. See more on brush cleaning in my post here. Sephora’s beauty sponge here is a lower-priced and better-shaped alternative to the well-known Beauty Blender.
Tower 28 Sephora
If you’ve never heard of this brand, it makes sense. Tower 28 Beauty brand’s packaging and marketing is an undeniable nod to Southern California. It screams hip teenager and an early 20s demographic. With that said, some of their products are beyond good for the mature-skinned woman.
In fact, I routinely encourage my over 50 clientele to give Tower 28’s Tinted Sunscreen Foundation a try. For some skin types, it is a more hydrating alternative to regular foundation and even to my favorite Ilia Tinted Serum. Read more about the product in my post here.
A couple of other very worthwhile products from Tower 28 are:
Tower 28 Blush-a $20 cream blush that is clean, well pigmented, and easy to blend. At about $20, the price is about 40% less than other comparable Sephora cream blushes. They also can be used for lips.
Tower 28 Bronzer-the same story for the bronzer as the blush. Nice colors and very creamy and blendable.
Tower 28 SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray-although not marketed as such, this face spray hydrates without tackiness and keeps makeup looking fresh throughout the day. Especially good for dry skin.
Skinfix
If I were to pick my biggest personal surprise, it would be the skincare brand called Skinfix. Unlike many other brands, Skinfix is clinically and dermatologically proven. The understated packaging speaks to the company’s mission of clean care with no unecessary fillers or fragrance.
This skin line is a cross between CeraVe and high-end skincare brands (think Drunk Elephant Protini, Caudalie, Tatcha, etc). Like CeraVe, it offers a dermatology-approved respite for those of us with eczema or sensitive skin. Like more expensive brands, it provides a wonderful richness and emollience for those us with increasingly dry skin. And, all for at least 30% + less.
Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Face Cream is now my daily go-to face cream.
Skinfix also offers a gel based face moisturizer (instead of a peptide cream), and an acne focused line and eczema products. A great way to first experience the line is to purchase one of their very affordable best seller sets like this one here. While everyone’s skin is different, I can almost guarantee you will be hooked on the product.
